1930 - 1933 Willys 98B, 98D, 97, 6-90, 6-90A, 8-88, 8-88A Monroe Double Acting Lever Arm Shock Absorber
These double acting shock absorbers fitted to both front and rear axles were a strong selling point for the 1930 Willys 6 Model 98B.
They were used on subsequent models but were not used on 1933 Willys 77 which used a more modern design with an improved linkage arm.
See Willys 77 Monroe Shock Absorber
The first 5 pictures below show the shock absorber and linkage from the left rear of a Willys 6 vehicle and feature a manual bleed screw which controls the dampening rate.
The Willys 6-90A, 8-88A "Custom" models featured a "Ride Select" lever at the right hand side of the dash which was connected via cable to a cross shaft mounted behind the brake cross shaft.
Four cables went from that cross shaft to each shock absorber so that the ride dampening rate could be adjusted automatically from the drivers seat.
Please note that lever arm shock absorbers can be reconditioned by Apple Hydraulics
