1933 Willys Model 99 Prototype - America

This vehicle was the six cylinder "big brother" to the four cylinder Willys 77.  Some sources say 15 protypes were built and this picture proves at least one made it to the road.  It was even advertised at $595 - $695 with optional ($100 extra) sleeve valve motor featuring steel rather than the usual cast iron sleeves.  In spite of the prototypes, full production was never reached because the body tooling was never fully completed - most likely due to the restrictions on funds by the banks.  Tooling for the Willys 99 side valve engine however, was completed and sold to International Harvester for use in their light pick-up truck.
